Best Rice Cooker in India

A rice cooker is an appliance that serves the purpose of reducing the hassle one has to go through if he/she tries to cook manually. If you belong to the community of people who have busy lives and less time.

You have an internal wish of having homemade tasty food at least once in a day, and cooking rice manually is not a good option as it has the maximum chance of rice getting burnt. So having a rice cooker is a must, as it not only saves your time and energy but so ensures you for getting a good meal.

How does it work?

Indians prefer two types of cookers which work differently.

 1-: A pressure cooker

Pressure cookers are the cheapest and best appliances to cook rice at home. They work on the principle of conduction. They have two parts - A lower metal part(usually aluminium) and a upper lid having valve ,whistle and handle.

For cooking rice in a pressure cooker you have to first rinse the rice and put it into the lower metal part with water usually in a ratio of 1:2.

After this the lid is closed. The lid of a pressure cooker is modified such that it locks on over a rubber gasket to create an airtight seal.

The cooker is then placed on gas/induction for heating. Once the boiling point of water is reached it gets converted into steam. This steam gets trapped as the cooker is sealed with lid. This trapped steam gets infused into the rice. The rice inside the cooker absorbs it and gets cooked. This trapped heat increases the pressure inside the cooker by 15 pounds per square inch. This incrrase in pressure and temperature results in faster cooking of the rice.

Once the pressure inside the cooker has reached its maximum limit. The cooker releases this steam via valve on the lid with a whistle as an indicator.

After 1-3 whistles the gas/induction is turned off and the cooker is left as it is for about 10-15 minutes.

After this the rice can be served.

2-: An electric cooker

This is also called as an automatic rice cooker. This has an insulated container with heating devices, sensors and knobs to control.

For cooking rice in this we have to put rice and water into a removable basin which comes inside the container. After this the basin is placed back into the container and the container is closed with the help of lid. Once the cooker is started the heating device inside this cooker heats the water which then gets converted into steam and this steam is absorbed by rice for getting cooked. The lid stops the steam to escape.

Once the thermal sensor detects that temprature of the cooker is giloing above 212 degrees which indicates that all water has been absorbed. The sensor trips off switch which prevents the rice from getting overcooked.

Why should one buy a rice cooker?

The main advantage of buying a rice cooker is that it saves your time and energy for cooking rice. The chances of rice getting burnt is least. These cookers can also be used for different purposes like steaming vegetables, making popcorn, making dal and other deserts.

Cookers are safe to handle and they are provided with necessary insulations which makes it safe to use them. The quality of rice i.e the essential nutrients and vitamins remain conserved. The quality of rice and taste which is obtained by cooker cannot be matched by rice cooked manually unless it is cooked with perfection. It is cheap and power-efficient, so they use less electric energy and gas for cooking rice.
